Berry Fruit

An upsurge in direct marking among commercial fruit growers has increased the demand for berry fruit. The Stade Sandy Heath, which is located directly on the edge of the Altes Land, is characterised by rising intensification of berry fruit growing. A few fruit farms on the heath are producing cane plant crops on suitably large areas, especially raspberries, red currant, blackberries and an increasing number of gooseberries. In terms of total berry production in the State of Lower Saxony, strawberries are the most significant fruit at 4,000 hectare (9,884 acres) followed by blueberries at 500 hectares (1,235 acres).
